Screened anti-osteoporosis active fractions from Eucommia; the innovative TCM drug has completed preclinical research

Story

Cheng Zhihong, PhD, researcher, and doctoral supervisor, studied under Academician Hou Huimin and works at the National Engineering Research Center for Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (China State Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry), where he heads the Innovative TCM Research Laboratory. He screened anti-osteoporosis active fractions from Eucommia, a herb with proven clinical efficacy, advancing innovative TCM development through druggability evaluation and dosage-form design.

His Eucommia active fraction demonstrated efficacy superior to alendronate sodium in rat and mouse osteoporosis models, has completed preclinical research, and has been submitted for clinical trials. As Vice Chairman of the Eucommia Professional Committee, he also participates in industry academic organizations, making him a representative industrial researcher in Eucommia new drug development.

• Gave the report 'Pharmacodynamic Study of Quan Duzhong Capsules Against Osteoporosis in Rats' at the 4th China Eucommia Conference in May 2023
• With support from Academician Hou Huimin, established an anti-osteoporosis new drug research platform and was selected as a 'Pearl Leading Talent' of Pudong New Area
