Representative scholar in Eucommia anti-osteoporosis pharmacology research; corresponding author of a paper in Bone
Mei Qibing is a professor of pharmacology at the Fourth Military Medical University and a renowned Chinese scholar in bone pharmacology. In 2009, his team published a study in the authoritative orthopedics journal Bone demonstrating that Eucommia bark extract (300–500 mg/kg for 16 consecutive weeks) significantly prevented bone loss in ovariectomized rats and improved trabecular microarchitecture without uterotrophic side effects. Widely cited by international peers, it is a classic paper in research on Eucommia against postmenopausal osteoporosis.
He led a National Natural Science Foundation project systematically investigating the material basis and compatibility mechanisms of Eucommia lignans and Dipsacus saponins against osteoporosis, proposed that Eucommia leaf extract constituents could be used to prevent and treat osteoporosis, and participated in collaborative TCM innovation in the Qinba Mountain region, promoting Eucommia resource conservation and industrial translation.
