事迹
小林昭雄是大阪大学名誉教授（食品营养学方向，多酚功能研究名家）。2005年他发起成立日本杜仲研究会（Japanese Society of Eucommia），把分散在大学、企业的杜仲研究者组织成跨学科学会，并亲任会长二十余年，2025年已办至第19届定期大会。
他主张杜仲'健康+工业'双轨开发：一方面推动杜仲叶抗代谢综合征的功能研究，一方面支持以黄土高原杜仲提取天然橡胶、兼顾防沙的产业路径。他还受聘西北农林科技大学客座教授，与苏印泉（研究会理事）等中国学者长期合作，是当代日本杜仲研究的组织核心。

Founded and has long led the Japanese Society of Eucommia, promoting dual-track research on Eucommia for health and rubber.
Story
Kobayashi Akio is professor emeritus of Osaka University (food and nutritional sciences; a noted researcher of polyphenol functions). In 2005 he initiated the Japanese Society of Eucommia, organizing Eucommia researchers scattered across universities and companies into an interdisciplinary academic society; he has personally served as president for over twenty years, and by 2025 the Society had held its 19th Annual Meeting.
He advocates dual-track 'health + industry' development of Eucommia: on one hand promoting functional research on Eucommia leaves against metabolic syndrome, on the other supporting an industrial pathway of extracting natural rubber from Eucommia grown on the Loess Plateau while combating desertification. Also a visiting professor at Northwest A&F University, he has long collaborated with Chinese scholars such as Su Yinquan (a Society director), making him the organizational core of contemporary Japanese Eucommia research.
