事迹
缪希雍（1546—1627），字仲淳，号慕台，常熟人，明代著名医学家。《神农本草经疏》30卷对《本经》药物逐条疏证发明，杜仲条为其疏证精详的代表条目之一，融汇《别录》、甄权、日华子等诸家之说并予以理论升华。
他解释杜仲主治机理：'腰为肾之府……肾藏精而主骨，肝藏血而主筋，二经虚则腰脊痛而精气乏，筋骨软而脚不能践地也。杜仲辛甘俱足，正能解肝肾之所苦，而补其不足者也。'其'简误'部分首立杜仲使用禁忌'肾虚火炽者不宜用'，体现了药性理论从记述向辨证用药的深化，该禁忌至今载于《中华本草》等权威著作。

His Shennong Bencao Jingshu systematically elucidated the mechanism by which Eucommia tonifies liver and kidney and strengthens sinews and bones.
Story
Miao Xiyong (1546–1627), courtesy name Zhongchun, hao Mutai, of Changshu, was a famous Ming-dynasty physician. The 30-juan Shennong Bencao Jingshu elucidates the drugs of Shennong's Classic entry by entry; the Eucommia entry is one of his most detailed elucidations, integrating the teachings of the Mingyi Bielu, Zhen Quan, Rihuazi, and other authorities and elevating them theoretically.
He explained Eucommia's mechanism: 'the lower back is the residence of the kidney... the kidney stores essence and governs bones; the liver stores blood and governs sinews. When both channels are deficient, the lumbar spine aches and essence-qi fails, sinews and bones soften and the feet cannot tread the ground. Duzhong, fully pungent and sweet, is precisely able to relieve what liver and kidney suffer and supplement their insufficiency.' His 'Jianwu' (correcting errors) section first established the contraindication 'not suitable for kidney deficiency with blazing fire', marking the deepening of drug-property theory from description toward pattern-based medication; this contraindication is still recorded in authoritative works such as the Zhonghua Bencao.
