Story

If scientists read Eucommia in the lab, Wang Fengju is the one who tells its story nationwide and weaves it into a network. As secretary-general of the China Eucommia Industry Innovation Alliance (and of the CRIA Eucommia Industry Promotion Work Committee), she connects 23 universities, institutes and firms into a collaborative platform.

She travels constantly among producing regions and enterprises: at Tongjiang she affirmed the leaf-forest model and urged larger planting, deep processing of extracts for health products, and stronger R&D; at Lueyang she inspected the national cultivar base and irradiation/space breeding; and she gave keynotes at national Eucommia forums. Her consistent message: Eucommia-rubber-centered utilization is a strategic emerging industry that can ease China’s severe shortage of natural rubber.
